ในปีพุทธศักราช 2308 พระเจ้ามังระ กษัตริย์พม่าส่งทัพพม่า 2 ทัพใหญ่บุกกรุงศรีอยุธยา ทัพหนึ่งบุกเข้ามาทางใต้ นำโดย มังมหานรธา อีกทัพหนึ่งเป็นทัพผสมรามัญบุกเข้ามาทางเหนือ นำโดย เนเมียวสีหบดี การบุกของทัพนี้ต้องเจออุปสรรคเป็นรายทาง เพราะต้องพบกับกองกำลังต่อต้านโดยชาวบ้านธรรมดา ๆ ทำให้ต้องเดินทัพล่าช้า โดยชาวบ้านที่แตกระสานซ่านเซ็นมารวมตัวกันที่บ้านระจัน โดยมี พ่อแท่น (ชุมพร เทพพิทักษ์) ผู้อาวุโสที่สุดเป็นแกนนำ ที่บ้านระจันมีชาวบ้านที่มีฝีมือหลายคนรวมตัวกัน เช่น อ้ายจัน (จรัล งามดี) ที่แค้นพม่าที่เมียถูกฆ่าตาย, อ้ายอิน (วินัย ไกรบุตร) พรานขมังธนู ที่เพิ่งอยู่กินกับอีสา (บงกช คงมาลัย) เมียสาว และ อ้ายทองเหม็น (บิณฑ์ บรรลือฤทธิ์) คนพเนจรผมเผ้ารุงรังที่ไม่มีใครรู้หัวนอนปลายตีน ชอบกินเหล้าเมาพับอยู่ใต้เกวียน และมีหลวงพ่อธรรมโชติ (ธีรยุทธ ปรัชญาบำรุง) ผู้ขมังเวทย์แห่งวัดโพธิ์เก้าต้น เป็นขวัญกำลังใจ
ในการรบครั้งหนึ่ง พ่อแท่นได้รับาดเจ็บ อ้ายจันจึงขึ้นเป็นผู้นำคนใหม่ อ้ายจันมีความคิดว่า ทางบ้านบางระจันน่าจะมีปืนใหญ่ใช้ต่อสู้กับพม่า จึงได้ให้ ขุนสรรค์ ร่างใบบอก และให้อ้ายอิน อ้ายเมือง (อรรถกร สุวรรณราช) นำไปแจ้งยังกรุงศรีอยุธยาเพื่อขอยืมปืนใหญ่ หากแต่ทางกรุงศรีอยุธยาไม่ยอมให้ยืม ด้วยเกรงว่าหากบ้านบางระจันพ่ายแก่พม่า พม่าอาจขโมยเอาปืนใหญ่และกระสุนดินดำกลับมาโจมตีพระนครได้
คืนหนึ่ง อ้ายอินได้ละทิ้งเวรยาม แอบพาพรรคพวกไปบุกค่ายของพม่า โดยหารู้ไม่ว่าคืนนั้น ทางพม่าเองก็ได้จัดทัพมาบุกค่ายบางระจันเช่นกัน จากเหตุการณ์นั้นทำให้เกิดความสูญเสียขึ้นในค่ายมากมาย คนหลายคนเสียขวัญ ได้อพยพออกจากค่ายบางระจันไปอยู่กรุงศรีอยุธยา ทำให้ผู้คนในค่ายบางตาลงไป

With no support from the Royal army, the villagers drives the invading Burmese away many times until their names have become legendary during the time. As each subsequent battles becomes fiercer, the villagers tries to forge a canon to battle the enemy in a final battle where everyone, women and children included, die in combat.
Bang Rajan (Thai: บางระจัน) is a 2000 Thai historical drama film depicting the battles of the Siamese village of Bang Rachan (alternate spelling) against the Burmese invaders in 1767, as remembered in popular Thai culture. Cross-checking the story with the events reported by the Burmese sources indicates that the purported events at Bang Rachan are likely a merger of at least two independent events that took place in the war.
The film was directed and co-written by Thanit Jitnukul. In 2004, the film was “presented” by Oliver Stone in a limited release in US cinemas.
Plot
The Burmese army is seeking to invade Ayutthaya, the capital of Siam. Seeking to block the invasion is a small band of villagers in Bang Rachan. The forces are at first led by Nai Taen, who is injured in an early battle. The villagers then turn to an outsider, Nai Chan Nuad Kheo, a moustachioed, veteran warrior. He brings along a handful of other men, who with the remaining men and women of Bang Rachan vow to put up a fight. They use all their resources to prepare the village for a siege, including melting down all available metal farming implements into a crudely constructed cannon. Lacking horses, the village drunkard, Nai Thongmen, mounts an old water buffalo and rides the draft animal into battle.
